ABC Learning Adventures Preschool will NOT be re-opening for 2020-2021 School Year. Registration for 2020-2021 is cancelled. Please see below for a letter from the Director:
It is with a heavy heart that I come to you today with an update on ABC Learning Adventures Preschool. The ABC Preschool Board has voted to close the Preschool for the upcoming school year. I am so sorry to bring you this news as I was so hopeful that with the onset and continuing effects of Covid 19 evolving and changing daily that we would be able to open as originally planned. We will have to reassess in 2021 whether we will be able to move forward with another school year slated for 2021-2022. I do not have any concrete answers to share with you at this time.
As all of you know, the uncertainty of the Pandemic has been the catalyst in so many decisions pertaining to so many things in our lives. We, as a staff and Board had to weigh very carefully the heavy weight of whether to open the Preschool in terms based solely on whether we felt it would be 100% safe for our children to participate in the program. We have been diligent in following the various regulations and restrictions set forth by the State to date. In continuing efforts by the State to keep children and staff safe, there has been an extensive list of protocols in which we would have to adhere in order to move forward with opening. This decision to close was made in a time frame concurrent to when we received updates from the State and when we could all be present for an important Board Meeting to discuss the given updates and mandates from the State.
One of the biggest challenges we faced was that we could only have nine children in a given space at a time without a divider. Our space at the preschool is dynamic, fun, and welcoming when the children can utilize the entire space. This would not be the case with the room divided in two with a canvas room divider. The children would not have been allowed to cross to the other side and vice versa and the semantics of that alone was a key element in our decision.
Other State mandates would have meant a lot would change in the way we would be able to nurture, comfort, care for and offer your children the warmth and love so associated with ABC Learning Adventures Preschool.
I want to thank you for giving us the opportunity and tremendous honor to teach your children. On behalf of the teachers and myself, we are heartsick over the loss of not being able to share the school year with your children and your amazing families. We are ever grateful for all of you - for entrusting your children to our care and for the support, love, participation and contributions that you poured into the Preschool, helping to make the Preschool a beacon of love and learning and a fun place for your children.
I hold fast to the belief that God has great plans for every one of your children, for all of our Preschool families, and for the Preschool itself. Jeremiah 29:11 is one of my favorite Scripture Verses. It says, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Faith is stepping out saying, "I trust you, God and I give you it ALL!" I trust God to bring about beauty from ashes whether it comes to the Pandemic, the many things happening in our country and around the world, or to His plan for the Preschool. I choose to "wait for the Lord; to be strong and to take heart..." Psalm 27:14.

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
The ABC Learning Adventures program is an early childhood educational program founded on the Biblical belief that "children are a gift of the Lord" (Psalm 127:3). ABC Learning Adventures is a non-profit program provided as a public service to the community by the Alexandria Baptist Church. All money received by the program is used for the maintenance and expansion of the ABC Learning Adventures program, equipment or facilities.
The objective of this program is to provide an interactive learning opportunity for young children within a wholesome, warm, and secure environment. Because we believe each child is a unique and special person created by God, the program has been designed to meet each child's unique intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual needs.
The daily regimen of activities provides for many types of interaction: small and large, adult to child, and child-to-child. Throughout the program, an appropriate balance between child initiated and adult initiated activities is maintained. Furthermore, each child is given the opportunity to work and play in an indoor and outdoor environment. In addition to all the activities, the routine is designed to make the child feel secure and safe at all times.
Moral, ethical and spiritual values will be shared with the children through a variety of means including stories and songs. Such values include the traditional Christian values of sharing, love, respect and obedience. Each child is encouraged to freely explore and question, without ridicule or condemnation.
